About us
We love Scotland. That’s why, since 1947, we’ve never stopped supplying energy to Scottish homes. Our journey as a company is almost as old as the hills themselves and we’ve been known as many things including ‘The North of Scotland Hydro Board’, ‘Hydro Electric’ and the good old ‘Hydro Board’ along the way. Today, as part of the Scottish and Southern Energy Group, a FTSE 100 company, we manage the largest distribution network in the UK and look after over 8.5 million customer accounts.

Another reason for our success is that, instead of complaining about the Scottish weather, we actually think it makes more sense to get the best out of it. That’s why we make no secret of the fact that we use it to do what we do best – making sustainable energy. Whilst the raindrops power the likes of Glendoe – the UK’s largest hydro electric power station – the good old Scottish breeze powers our off-shore wind farms.
